Part 1: Detox – 2 Weeks
The diet program starts with a 2-week Detox Phase, which is stated as being a “critical” step to follow. The detox centers around eating healthy, fresh foods – organic where possible. Key ingredients include raw nuts and seeds, organic fruits and vegetables and olive and coconut oils. FLF recommends only drinking spring water during this phase. You must avoid sugar, artificial sweeteners and most meat and dairy products. There are no exercise requirements at this stage – in fact, the author recommends avoiding strenuous activity and heading outside instead for a 30 or 60 minute moderate walk every day.
The stated purpose of the FLF detox is to start to eliminate toxins from your body, as well as improve your energy and sleep levels. Another key suggestion the author makes is that this step helps to break any unhealthy relationships you may have with food and eating.
Part 2: The “Un-Diet” – 10 weeks
Referred to by the author as an “un-diet”, this phase of the program is based around eating foods based on the broad categories of fresh fruit and vegetables (preferably organic), lean proteins, healthy fats and low GI carbs. As well as food suggestions there are also 5 key rules to follow in this part of the FLF program:
- Eat small meals, more often;
- Consume most of your calories in the mornings;

- Make sure there is at least one raw ingredient on every plate;
- Have one “cheat” day every week!
You can choose diet levels corresponding to beginner, intermediate, rapid weight loss or extreme weight loss to suit your needs.
Part 3: Exercise routine
Once you’ve entered the “un-diet” phase you should also start to follow the FLF 12-week exercise program. This is divided into Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced exercises to cater for all experience and fitness levels.
Most of the workouts are simple machine-based exercises, and each workout lasts for between 35 and 60 minutes. Beginners or those unfamiliar with any of the exercises can view short animations that walk you through each routine, helping to make sure you’re doing things correctly. For those short on time, there’s also a sample of a 15-minute cut-down routine to help you keep up your activity even if you have a day where you can’t commit to the full routine. At the start of the 12-week program it’s recommended that you workout 3 times a week.
Once you’ve completed the initial 12-week program you can then add further cardio exercises to increase the benefits, and the author also encourages the use of yoga, tai chi or pilates to increase the overall wellness benefits of this program.
